Ultrasound-Guided Carpal Tunnel Release

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve in your wrist is compressed by a thickened transverse carpal ligament. Our ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release uses a tiny incision and a specialized device under real-time ultrasound guidance to cut the ligament and relieve nerve pressure. This minimally invasive approach results in less scarring and minimal pain, and most patients return to normal activities within three to five days. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in our clinic and typically lasts less than two hours. There are no stitches, and you can move your hand immediately after the procedure.

For people with persistent or severe carpal tunnel syndrome, ultrasound-guided release offers a safe and effective option when splints, injections or physical therapy haven’t helped. Real-time imaging allows your surgeon to avoid nerves and blood vessels, so only a small incision is needed. The result is less tissue trauma, minimal scarring and a faster recovery—most patients return to work and daily activities within three to five days.

This procedure treats carpal tunnel syndrome, which is caused by compression of the median nerve. By cutting the tight transverse carpal ligament, it relieves symptoms such as numbness, tingling, weakness and pain in the thumb, index and middle fingers.

Your wrist will be numbed with local anesthetic. The surgeon makes a small incision and uses an ultrasound probe to see the carpal tunnel structures. A specialized device is inserted through the incision and guided to release the transverse carpal ligament. The incision is closed with a bandage—no stitches are needed. The procedure usually takes under two hours, and you can move your hand right away. Most patients go home the same day and control discomfort with over-the-counter medication.
