Anxiety disorders
Screen for generalized anxiety disorder or panic disorder using tools (e.g., GAD‑7); assess for somatic symptoms and comorbidities
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin‑norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), buspirone; short-term benzodiazepines only for severe cases; beta blockers for performance anxiety
TSH and T4 to rule out thyroid disease, CBC, CMP, B12, glucose; urine drug screen if indicated
Panic attacks, palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, persistent worry, insomnia interfering with daily life, risk of self‑harm
Every 4–6 weeks during medication titration, then every 3–6 months; more often if severe
Regular exercise, mindfulness and relaxation techniques, sleep hygiene, limit caffeine and alcohol
Refer to mental health specialist for CBT; psychiatric consultation for medication management; support groups
