Ankle Alphabet

Purpose: Improve ankle mobility in multiple directions and help reduce stiffness.

Equipment: None.

How to do it:
1) Sit with the leg supported and foot off the floor.
2) Using only your ankle/foot (not the whole leg), “write” the letters A through Z in the air.
3) Make letters slow and controlled; keep the range comfortable.

Dosage note:
- One full alphabet counts as 1 repetition.

Dosage: 3 sets of 1 reps (or seconds/holds if that is how your therapist prescribed it). Rest 30–60 seconds between sets.

Progression:
- Increase the size of the letters gradually.
- Add a second alphabet set if swelling and soreness remain controlled.

Comfort and safety:
Move slowly and stay in a comfortable range. A mild stretch or light muscle fatigue is okay; sharp pain is not.
Stop and contact your care team if you notice increasing swelling, redness, warmth, drainage, fever, or new/worsening numbness/tingling.
Follow any post-op precautions, lifting limits, and motion restrictions given by your surgeon or therapist.
