Sugary Foods and Sweets

Sugary foods promote inflammation and collagen damage, impairing the bone healing environment.

Bone repair requires low inflammation and strong collagen structure. Excess sugar undermines both processes.

High intake of added sugars impairs bone healing by increasing systemic inflammation and oxidative stress. Elevated blood glucose promotes the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which accumulate in bone collagen and make it more brittle. These changes disrupt osteoblast function and increase osteoclast activity, reducing new bone formation. Evidence from diabetic populations shows delayed fracture healing and poorer bone quality under high-glucose conditions. Reducing sugary foods supports collagen integrity and bone regeneration.
